About this site

This site documents stories and photographs about Redfern and Waterloo that are not often known to the community at large. You will find varying 'voices' and experiences under Oral history, and there are photos, videos and news stories that display the vibrant community spirit and showcase achievements that do not necessarily make headlines. Some of the people you will encounter are quiet achievers, unsung heroes or simply ordinary members of  the community.

Who are we?

Redfern Residents for Reconciliation [RRR] is a small group dedicated to the process of reconciliation, healing, restoring rights and reducing racism. It is a mixture of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. Interviewing started in 2002, so that information about this vital, dynamic and diverse community could reach the general public. That round of interviews was funded by Australia Council for the Arts. The original interviewers were Anael, Kaylene Simon and Sr Pat Ormesher. Deborah Wall set up the website to publish the interviews and it was launched in February 2007. The group then invited a recently retired teacher-librarian to update the website and keep it running. Maggie created links to the community organisations, and multiple sources that showcase the breadth of the community, and the significant contributions that have been made.
