Our Land Council Our Mob Our Future: Knockout 2016

Knockout 2016 - It's a Wrap!

Yaama and welcome to another edition of OurMob, the online newsletter and website for the Land Rights Network.

This month OurMob celebrates the 2016 NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout.

We congratulate the Knockout victors for 2016  - the Redfern All Blacks Women's and Men's sides.

The Knockout has come a very long way from its first steps in 1971, and is now one of the most important annual gatherings for mob around NSW.

It attracts families, young and old, elite sportepeople, those on their way to sporting careers, and those who just like to watch some of the best league around.

And we take a visual journey through four days of fun, family, community and sport at the iconic Leichhardt Oval.

OurMob brings a colourful video retrospective of the weekend here, as well as thoughts from some of our Elders, health providers, and mob visiting Sydney from around the state.

OurMob's new social media hashtag printer was a huge hit around the grounds, and you can see some photos here.

Or go to Instagram @nswalc for all the photos taken by you (and us) on #OURMOB and #NSWALC, also @nswalc on Twitter and NSW Aboriginal Land Council on Facebook.

We hope you enjoy this edition of OurMob!

Knockout 2016 - It's a Wrap!

30-thousand people travelled to Sydney for four days of deadly football in glorious spring weather.

New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council is proud to continue its long-standing commitment to the Knockout, with its grant of up to $75,000 for the first 75 male or female teams to register for the events.

NSWALC was there across the four-day event, and OurMob introduced our new hashtag photo printer to the mob, which was a big hit!

If you had some #OURMOB photos taken, we hope they give you fond memories of a great cultural gathering.

OurMob's video retrospective is here.

OurMob Shoutouts at Knockout 2016

There's nothing better than stepping up to represent, and there was plenty of that at Leichhardt Oval.

Some great shoutouts here, and thanks to all the mob who spoke with us!

Knockout 2016 - The Deadliest Thing

OurMob grabbed an iPad and went wandering - to find out the deadliest thing you did at Knockout, and the deadliest thing about the competition!

Seeing family, friends and having time to yarn were some of the most popular answers - but find out more about The Deadliest Thing here.

Need we say more?

Plenty of colour, action, family and fun here.

From the Elders' Tent

OurMob spent quite a few hours in the Elders' Tent yarning with some of our amazing senior people.

We'll bring you more on their thoughts, observations and widsom in an upcoming edition of OurMob.

But a wonderful snippet from Aunty Mavis Davis and Moose on why Knockout is so important for Elders.
