Singing Together for Change

A great song captures not only the thoughts of a movement but the feelings as well – our experiences of this life and its struggles. Music can connect us with each other, with ourselves and with our deepest-held aspirations that drive us to work for change.

Songs for Social Justice is a gathering to share our rich treasury of songs, to meet other music-lovers and to encourage more music into our movement for change. It will include a concert showcasing some of our most passionate performers and a program of teaching and sharing that you’re heartily encouraged to take part in.

No Song Weekend in 2013

Participation is central to this weekend.
All of the Saturday and Sunday sessions are active and participatory, but the Song-Sharing Circles invite you to bring songs on the theme to share with everyone in the circle. The song-sharing themes on this year’s program are:

• Environmental songs
• songs written by people persecuted or executed for their art
• peace and anti-nuclear songs
• songs written or inspired by radical Scottish / Australian songwriter Alistair Hulett
• songs that comment on the social change movement
• songs about working lives and workers’ struggles

The weekend was first held in 2011 and was a great success at short notice, with over 50 people attending. If you would like to be involved in any way, or just to find out more, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
