A recent forum hosted by the Law Society of NSW titled ‘Mind the Gap - Advancing Indigenous Justice’ discussed the need for tailored strategies to address Indigenous incarceration rates, which have long been viewed as a national disgrace.

The panel consisted of ALRC Commissioner of Inquiry into the incarceration rates of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, Justice Matthew Myers, Youth Koori Court Magistrate, Sue Duncombe, Chair of Just Reinvest NSW Sarah Hopkins, and Executive Director of Juvenile Justice NSW, Melanie Hawyes.

Justice Reinvestment, Therapeutic Justice and Koori Courts are just some of the strategies being put forward as alternative options to imprisonment.
