MAKE THE CORNER OF REDFERN & REGENT STREETS HOSPITABLE

To the Lord Mayor and Councillors of the City of Sydney,

The Petition of residents, workers, students and businesses of Redfern, Waterloo, Eveleigh, Darlington and Alexandria and visitors to our area brings to the attention of Council:

• the unwelcoming and inhospitable nature of the corner of Redfern & Regent Streets, Redfern;

• community disquiet over possible readings of the artwork ‘the Bower’ in light of events that have occurred in the community since the commissioning of this artwork.

The undersigned petitioners therefore ask Council to request the CEO in consultation with the City’s Public Art Advisory Panel to:

• conduct community consultation leading to a design competition for the installation of an artwork to replace the Bower at its current site;

• conduct further community consultation leading to the Bower being resited in a more suitable context
