I am deeply saddened by the news of the loss of another great man from among our ranks; the great 'Black Lace' guitarist Geoffrey Compton. So many memories of his guitar playing with the 'Lace' and great times at the Foundation and around Redfern in the old days. His place in the musical and political history of Black Australia is guaranteed. This man is going to be deeply missed by the multitudes who loved him. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Gary Foley
Geoff Compton [second from left] was in Silva Linings, formed in 1966, and renamed Black Lace in 1972. Geoff was in the band till 1983, when he went back home to Tweed Heads to live. With Mac Silva [1942-1989], Arnold Williams & Drew Donnelly in 1978 |

| Taleena Simon has become the first Aboriginal woman to receive a full time professional contract in Australia’s Sevens program. Hailing from Redfern in Sydney’s Inner West, Simon said she was excited to now be a professional athlete.
'I am so proud to be a part of the Australian Women’s Sevens squad and with Rugby now in the Olympic program from 2016, it really is an exciting time to play Sevens.' The 21 year old winger has been an impressive force for a few years. She first started playing in the Redfern Sevens side before being picked up for the National Indigenous Sevens team in 2012. Coach Tim Walsh was excited about Taleena’s potential. 'She displays electric speed, great awareness and a genuine love for the game - all necessities to be a part of this squad'.
